Hyundai Mobis shows off new e-Corner system at CES 2023 in Las Vegas
This month at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Hyundai Mobis released a tech demonstration unveiling their new e-Corner system. The e-Corner system, shown installed on the Ioniq 5 EV, allows electric vehicle drivers to drive their vehicle sideways, diagonally, pivot, and even perform zero-turn. The way this system works is by having a separate electric motor in each wheel, allowing the wheels to be controlled and powered individually.
As the population increases and the world becomes smaller, this technology has the potential to affect urban planning. By being able to drive the vehicle in many different directions, parking spaces could become smaller and the ability to parallel park would no longer be needed since the vehicle could drive in sideways.
This system is still very early into its development stage for electric Hyundai vehicles with no plans as of yet to be released for consumer use.
