The first of the five trims of the 2021 Hyundai Kona is the SE.  The SE runs off a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that gives 147 horsepower, and 132 lb-ft of torque and runs with a six-speed automatic transmission.  This combination gives the Kona SE surprisingly good acceleration for an SUV of its size, and gets 30mpg combined, at 27 city and 33 highway.  The Kona SE comes equipped with forward collision-avoidance assist, and lane-keeping assist for a safer driving experience.  Keeping up with technological advances of the new age, the Kona SE is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for hands-free phone use while driving, and a 7-inch touchscreen for control over the six-speaker audio system right at your fingertips.  Finally, the Kona SE has 16-inch alloy wheels, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, and ample room for comfort with the interior volume sitting at 113.3 cu.ft. and the cargo capability being 19.2 cu.ft with rear seats up, and 45.8 cu.ft when seats are folded down. 

Next up we have the Kona SEL, which has the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine as the SE, as well as the same safety features such as lane-assist and forward collision-avoidance assist, but gets even safer with blind-spot monitoring and rear-cross traffic alert.  The SEL has 17-inch wheels, HD and satellite radio and more conveniences such as roof rails, keyless entry and ignition, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and heated mirrors to keep frost off during the colder months and give full visibility of your surrounds unimpeded.  Available as an edition is the Night trim, which upgrades the engine to a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine with 175 hp and 195 lb-ft mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard on the SEL Night, as well as 18-inch black-painted Rays wheels, LED headlights, black exterior trim, power-adjustable driver’s seat, and an eight-speaker Infinity audio system.

Sitting in right in the middle of the Kona lineup is the SEL Plus, which shares the same engine and cargo space as the SE and SEL plus, but offers a more luxurious ride for driver and passengers.  The SEL Plus comes standard with foglights, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a sunroof to create the appearance of more room.  The speaker system also gets an upgrade in the SEL Plus to an eight-speaker Infinity audio system, and finally a wireless charging pad.

The Kona Limited is the first trim to come standard with the 1.6- liter turbocharged engine that gives 175 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque.  It shares all of the same features as the SEL Plus, but gets a few upgrades including LED headlights, 18-inch wheels, and a chrome exterior trim.  For ultimate comfort, the Kona Limited also comes with all leather upholstery and automatic climate control.

Named rightly so, the Kona Ultimate gives an unmatched driving experience in an SUV of this size.  Equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen and an integrated navigation system, finding your way around has never been easier or more convenient.  In addition to all safety features of the previous trims, the Ultimate comes equipped with rear parking sensors, head-up display that shows information in your line of sight right on the windshield, and adaptive cruise control that keeps you at a set distance between surrounding cars.  It truly is the ultimate driving experience.
