One of the most devastating words a person can hear is the word cancer. Even more so when this word is a diagnosis you are receiving for your child. A rare but devastating condition, the American Cancer Society estimates almost 10,000 children under 15 years of age will be diagnosed with cancer in 2023. For 25 years, Hyundai Hope on Wheels has been working to help fight this.

Hyundai Hope on Wheels is a non-profit organization that raises money to support childhood cancer research and programs. The organization has donated more than $225 million to children’s hospitals and research institutions across the United States since its inception in 1998. To mark the 25th anniversary of Hyundai Hope on Wheels, they are setting out to grant a total of $25 million in 2023.

On Thursday, August 3rd, Hyundai Hope on Wheels hosted an event at Kentucky Children’s Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. During this event, childhood cancer survivors were given the opportunity to join together and celebrate their fight against pediatric cancer. These children participated in Hyundai’s “Handprint Ceremony” where they got to place their painted handprint on a Hyundai car, immortalizing their battle and spreading awareness as this vehicle travels across the country. Kentucky Children’s Hospital was also presented with a $100,000 grant from Hyundai Hope on Wheels to support their clinics for childhood cancer.

The money that Kentucky Children’s hospital is receiving will be going towards making their clinics more inviting for these patients and to give them a more positive experience while they go through their difficult situation. It is Hyundai’s hope to not only help those families affected by this horrible condition, but to help bring and end to pediatric cancer for good.
